Following his call to the bar, Michael practised at a well-regarded law firm in Waterloo, specializing in the areas of Civil and Municipal Litigation. Michael has advocated before the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal.
Michael’s areas of practice include: Real Estate, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Estate Administration, Business Law and Civil Litigation.
Michael obtained his Honours Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) from Wilfrid Laurier University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa School of Law, where he was awarded the Council of Canadians Administrative Tribunals Award for excellence in administrative law. Michael was the Editor-in-Chief of the law school newspaper and summered as a legal research assistant to Professor Jamie Benidickson.
Michael, his wife, Amanda, and their two children, Bennett and Meryl, are proud residents of Tillsonburg. Michael is an avid fan of multiple cursed sports franchises, is addicted to Southern-style BBQ and is an underwhelming, but enthusiastic hockey player.
John was born and raised in the Tillsonburg area, growing up on the family tobacco farm near Glen Meyer. He completed high school at Annandale High School in 1964 and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Waterloo University College in 1967. Upon graduation from Law School at the University of Western Ontario, he attended the Bar Admission Course at Osgoode Hall in Toronto, and was admitted as a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1972.
Since obtaining his Law Degree, John has practised law in Tillsonburg establishing his own firm in 1988. Areas of practice have included, Real Estate, Wills and Estates, Corporate, Commercial, Civil Litigation, Matrimonial and Criminal Law, often representing several generations of clients.
John is an active member of the Oxford Law Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, been a member of the Tillsonburg Kinsmen Club and been involved in activities both on a coaching level and as a participant.
He enjoys spending time with family and attending various sporting activities of his grandchildren and is proud to be a resident of Tillsonburg for 43 years.
